What is Assault?

Assault is a new class of Yuri's Revenge multiplayer game modes. Assault is played on specially configured maps which begin each game by assigning each player a special building (typically, a "Flag"). When a player's flag is lost, all his units and structures are also lost, causing him to be defeated.

Assault can only be played in Yuri's Revenge when the game is modified to make use of the Assault maps. Therefore, merely installing the Assault mappacks will not enable an Assault game mode. It is also necessary to run the game using a modification which supports Assault. A list of such modifications can be found on the Supporting Mods section of the navigation menu.
The Rules of Assault

How an Assault game is played is determined by the rules defined in the Assault-supporting modification you are playing. Destroying an enemy's flag might be done by attacking it with units. Or perhaps the flag might need to be captured in order to destroy it. The flag might be a vulnerable building which needs to be defended by other assets, or the flag might be a formidable defensive structure in its own right. Some units may be able to cause a flag's destruction, and other units may not. An Assault game mode might require only human players (no AI), or it might allow skirmish play.

The rules for a specific Assault game are determined by the supporting modification. So, Assault may play differently depending on the mod that you have enabled. What's more, any given modification may have many Assault game mode variations to choose from. Read the documentation, included with the modification you are playing, to find out exactly what the rules of play are in that particular mod.
Simple to Use

Each Assault mappack is a collection of 25 high-quality maps. Most are made by well-known mapmakers, and some are conversions of popular Westwood maps that you've played before. A few are conversions of Tiberian Sun maps, reworked to play well in Yuri's Revenge.

All you need to do to make your game Assault-ready is to install the mappacks, which you can get on the Downloads page. The installers make no modifications to your game files, nor do they modify your registry. Each mappack is a single file, so installing them will not litter your RA2 game folder with a riot of individual map files. There is no need to ever uninstall them, because they cannot be "seen" by the unmodified game. You can play Yuri's Revenge normally, including online play, because the Assault mappacks do not modify anything.

You only need to install the Assault mappacks once, because they function as a plug-in enhancement. All supporting mods use the same maps, so you do not have to download them again and again for each mod that you play.
Support & Updates

The Assault mappacks already released will continue to be supported. Technical support is available in the form of community discussion at the C-GEN Forums. The mappacks themselves will be updated as required to address issues that may arise, and/or to add functionality. News of such updates will be made on this site.

The release of new, additional mappacks is intended. The answer to the question of when that will happen is, "when they are done".
